    When Tess's drunken father discovers their family can trace their ancestry back to Norman nobility, her unhappy fate is set in motion. Exceptionally beautiful, Tess is given a place with her supposed noble kinsmen, the D'Urbervilles. Rather than being a happy ending, the move to her new home is only the beginning of a chain of tragic events for the spirited girl...
