Life is anything but simple for René Artois, the proprietor of a cafe in a village in Occupied France. Ostensibly neutral, he has somehow got mixed up in hiding an art treasure in a garlic sausage. With Nazis are hot on the painting's trail on one side, and the Resistance insisting that he shelter two British soliders on the other, he scarcely has space to breathe. But all that pales into comparison with his tricky personal situation -- if Madame Artois, Edith, discovers his dalliances with the waiting staff, René's life won't be worth living. Sadly not all secrets can be so convenientlly concealed in a flavoured banger!
